How Long Is The Recovery Process For Implants
Brea, CA

Rendering of jaw with dental implant at Brea Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry in Brea, CA. Recovery after dental implants are determined by a number of factors. The number of teeth impacted, the patient, the specific situation, and most significantly, how you manage your recovery process, all determine how long it takes to recover after dental implant surgery. In 99 percent of instances, local anesthesia combined with intravenous or oral sedation is used in dental surgery. There is little to no post-operative pain or swelling when a straightforward dental implant is placed with little to no grafting. For example, to replace a single missing back tooth or an instantaneous implant to replace a failing tooth.

Dental Implant Recovery Timeline

When it comes to the recovery period after implant dentistry, it all depends on the type of cosmetic dentistry procedure and the extent of the damage to your tooth. At Brea Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry, our doctors Dr. Michael Han and will guide you through the process when getting a complete smile makeover.

We advise most patients to avoid eating for at least one hour following surgery. Before you eat, we want to be sure the gum has had time to clot. You can eat something soft after removing your gauze, and the bleeding has stopped. Avoid using a straw when drinking, and avoid hot beverages at all costs. You can start experimenting with firmer meals after 24 hours. To determine which meals make you uncomfortable, use your best judgment. We strongly advise you to postpone eating painful foods until after you have healed completely.

Importance of Regular Checkups

Implants will continue to integrate (bind or fuse) with the bone after the initial healing is complete. In certain circumstances, the implants can be loaded right away, but more frequently, loading (with a crown or bridgework) is done between two and six months after implant insertion. This depends on the specific circumstances, the patient's bone condition, and whether any grafting was necessary.

In order to guarantee that the dental implants integrate as effectively as possible, you will also need to schedule routine checkups with your dentist. At this point, any particular guidance that impacts recovery will be given.

Dental Implant Aftercare

Recovery from dental implants depends on the kind of surgery needed and the number of implants you get. The implant will fully integrate with the bone in about a week. Possible side effects are post-dental implant syndromes, including slight bleeding at the implant sites, swelling, bruising, sore throat, and jaw stiffness.

Your lifestyle decisions will also affect how quickly your dental implants recover. For instance, smoking can cause issues with the implants or cause the healing process to fail altogether. After your dental implant surgery, your diet will alter significantly. To prevent sabotaging the healing process, you will need to stay away from several foods and beverages.

The similar functionality of dental implants to your natural teeth is an advantage. We advise upholding proper oral health and hygiene practices. Keep in mind to brush for two minutes each time, twice daily. Remember to floss as well. Maintain your regular cleaning and examination program. Implants last longer if you take better care of them. Even though implants will experience typical wear and tear, they won't develop cavities. However, that does not obligate you to disregard them. Keep your gums healthy, especially the area around the implant. Gum care is crucial.
